“This is insane,” Katie muttered as she stood there on the end of the shore with a rod in hand. She didn’t even pay attention to which one she grabbed. All she knew was that liar was spewing ponyta dung. A barboach that size could exist yes, but not in a creek that small. The pour thing would have been found way beforehand if that was the chase.

“Here goes nothing,” she said taking the rod and preparing to cast it. Grabbing the line near the reel, she pulled on it to draw some slack before slowly bringing it behind her. Once it was directly behind her she gave it an overhead cast, letting go of the slack that she drew. The bobber and hook sailed thru the air and landed on the water’s surface about ten paces away from where she stood.

Now in the long haul of it, the half-elf took a seat on the sandy shore line. Around her the pristine lake was alive with people taking part in this impromptu fishing derby. Some fished from the dock, others took boats out to the middle of the lake. Most, like herself, found themselves fishing from the beach of the lake though approaches varied. Some stayed dry by not risking getting near the water while some went for the extra pace and waded into the water up to their waist before casting their lines.

The biggest attraction though was the half-dwarf that sparked this contest. The crowd that had gathered around would have made any normal fisher nervous if not mad that their chattering would be scaring off the fish. Not him though. In fact, he was leading the conversation with his boasting.

“Why do I have the feeling that he has this competition rigged?” She said returning to her attention to her bobber. It sat there rocking with the waves with not a care in the world. She would sit there for another twenty minutes or so before her first bite happened. During that time, she watched other fishermen pull up an array of fish like Pokémon. From magikarps to barboaches to goldeens the different Pokémon that was caught staggered her mind.

“What is in this lake,” she pondered out loud when she finally felt her line get tugged on. Right from the start, she started reeling in her first catch of the day. It fought back hard to the point where she thought the line had snap. But when she was about to give up, the fish jumped back into action pulling harder than before. To the left and right it struggled against her relentless reeling until she finally brought it shore.

“Well now,” she said looking at her catch as it struggled still on the line, “let’s see if you can shut that loud mouth up.”
